What is the Career Project?
The Career Project is an interactive career profile database that allows students and job seekers a personal and uncensored look into thousands of real careers and jobs through the eyes of the people who work them. Each career profile has three sections; an extensive interview with the participant about their job, a detailed personal account of an average day on that job, and a question and answer section titled "Ask Me" where you can ask each participant any additional questions about their career.
Can I use The Career Project Questionnaire for my class? Where can I get it?
The Career Project Questionnaire is now available for educational and personal use! It has been popular with our younger students to use it for career day or any assigned career research project. Please email info@thecareerproject.org and we would be happy to send you The Career Project Questionnaire.
If it is free, why do I need to register my school?
The profiles are currently available for your use, free of charge. NEW(3/2009) Within the year access to view the profiles will require registration. Currently we only charge a fee to allow users to directly contact and question our mentors on the "Ask Me" feature of the profile. Many schools have found the direct question feature important for their students. The ability to ask mentors questions in an anonymous safe environment has proven invaluable to students and furthering their career journey.
How do I register my school?
Please email info@thecareerproject.org or use our feedback form on the Contact Us page. List your school, population, who you are and your email and phone number. We will work with schools individually to come up with a plan that is cost effective.
How does The Career Project recruit mentors?
The Career Project began as a grass roots effort! We started by contacting family, friends and co-workers in a variety of fields and word of mouth quickly spread across the United States. Once a mentor's profile has been verified as complete we compensate our mentors with specialty coffee cards. We are proud that we have thousands of profiles of mentors from all walks of life in hundreds of different professions. We add 200-300 profiles monthly of only quality, complete profiles.
How do you screen them?
The director has the final approval regarding all profiles. We do not accept profiles that do not meet our criteria; criteria includes but is not limited too, participants being at least 23 years of age, having at least an associate degree or having worked a minimum of three years and worked at least 25 hours per week in their chosen profession. We do require mentors to use their work email, and if they do not have one, they must provide a contact phone number for work verification. To register as a mentor please visit www.TheCareerProject.com.
I have seen grammar errors on the profiles, will these be fixed?
We do not alter the mentor's content. We do not want to alter their voice, message or information in any capacity. This includes spelling and grammatical errors. We do ask them to review their profile before submitting it to be live on The Career Project.
If we register our school how would it work?
Students must use their school email address to register. They will have to confirm this email address via a confirmation email that is automatically sent after registering.
We will list your school in the section titled "Students." Students can view the list to see if their school has free registration. Please contact us if there is any conflict.
You may tell your students about The Career Project in any way you see fit. It is not mandatory to list The Career Project on your career center’s site or list of resources, but we do find it is the best way to let your students know we exist and are available to them for free.
What if we have alumni or students that no longer have a working school email address?
We will provide your school with a password that your student will email us direclty and we will manually approve their registration. Will our student's contact information be protected and confidential? The Career Project will not rent, sell or lease your student's personal and or contact information. Only their statistical data will be used. This include gender, age, and geographic location. Eventually we will offer a monthly newsletter. No advertiser or outside party will ever have access to your student's information.
We will give you:
1. A Semester report that includes the name and email of every student who registers from your school.
